Line fittings connect lines to each other or to a component. They are used in compressed-air, coolant, fuel and hydraulic systems, among others. The material, seal and method of securing the line vary by application. A fitting for a compressed-air line is therefore not necessarily suitable for a coolant hose or hydraulic line.
On a MAN TGL with a D08 engine, a MAN TGX with a D26 engine, a Mercedes Atego with an OM 936 engine or a Sprinter, line diameter and connection type may vary by system and vehicle specification. Identify the correct fitting using the chassis number, the application and the dimensions of the existing line and connection. Also check that the fitting is suitable for the pressure, temperature and fluid in the relevant system.
Voss supplies push-in and threaded fittings for line connections in compressed-air systems, among other products. Raufoss is also known for push-in fittings for compressed-air lines, for example in braking and auxiliary air systems. Their suitability depends on the specific version: check the line size, connection profile and applicable specifications.
Norma supplies hose clamps and connectors for securing or joining hoses in systems such as coolant circuits. Parker and Eaton supply fittings for hydraulic lines and hoses, among other products. The pressure rating, thread type and seal are crucial to a suitable, leak-free connection. Parts from different brands are not automatically interchangeable.
A line connection can leak because of a damaged seal, a line that has not been fully inserted, an incorrect line size or a damaged mating surface. First identify where the leak is occurring and clean the connection before inspecting it. For hoses, also check for cracks, hardening and damage around the clamp or fitting.
When replacing a fitting, use one suitable for the relevant system and follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Cut a push-in line squarely, check the end of the line and insert it fully into the fitting. After installation, check the connection for leaks under the specified operating conditions. This addresses not only the leaking fitting but also the cause of a recurring problem.
