Interchangeable unit or swap body system for semi-trailers

With a swap body system you can transport different load bodies with the same semi-trailer. This facilitates intermodal transport: the loading bodies can easily be transferred from train or ship to truck and vice versa. The interchangeable unit makes it possible to simply replace the cargo box without having to transfer the goods one by one. That way you save a lot of time and your transport becomes much more cost-efficient. The system is similar to a container system, although the trailers for the latter are fully tailored to the standardised size of a sea container.

The right kind of swap body for your semi-trailer

A swap body semi-trailer gives you double flexibility: semi-trailers can be disconnected from the towing vehicle and are therefore interchangeable, while the swap system allows you to transport different containers with one semi-trailer. And these swap bodies exist in various sizes and versions. There is the classic swap body, which looks very much like an ordinary container, but is made of much lighter material. Sometimes the side walls are even made of tarpaulins. Secondly, there are A-shifters, which are containers longer than 12 metres. The third category comprises C-behalters, which in terms of length fall between a shipping container and an A-behalter. Therefore not all types of container necessarily fit on every swap body system.
